Help keep The BASE Soup Kitchen open!
To raise awareness of homelessness in Toowoomba and funds to keep Toowoomba’s only soup kitchen open, BASE Coordinator Nat Spary is going homeless for a week between 1st - 7th August, 2016.
The BASE Soup Kitchen is Toowoomba's only soup kitchen which provides lunch time meals to anyone in need 11am - 12:30pm Monday to Friday.
Most days the BASE sees 40 to 60 people in need including men and women, individuals and families of all ages who are homeless or at high risk of homelessness, ex-service people, people with health issues, people facing trauma due to grief, loss or separation, people with addictions, Indigenous Australians and migrants come in for something to eat and a chat.
The BASE is vital for those doing it tough in Toowoomba, as it is often the only meal that person will eat for the day and the only place where they are able to connect and feel accepted.
We try to help out where we can providing blankets, swags, warm clothing and links to accommodation and other necessary services including the Department of Human Services, Oz Care Health Clinic, Goolburri General Practitioner and a Homeless Person’s Legal Clinic who visit weekly.
Recently we have helped a family who were homeless for nineteen months access permanent housing; assisted an elderly man who recently lost his business and house access payments from the Department of Human Services for the first time; and provided a homeless man with a blood glucose machine to monitor his diabetes.
Please help us keep the BASE Soup Kitchen doors open.
All donations over $2 are tax deductable.
